Allow us to build Ram temple in Ayodhya, BJP’s Subramanian Swamy urges Muslims

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Sunday urged Muslims to hand over their part of the land in Ayodhya to help the construction of a grand Ram temple there.

“We will provide them land at another place for the construction of a mosque. It will strengthen the relationship between Hindus and Muslims,” he said while addressing a Virat Hindu Sangam function in Patna.

Swamy insisted that a grand Ram temple would be constructed at Ayodhya, where a mob razed the 16th century Babri Masjid in December 1992.

He also claimed that both former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao wanted a Ram temple to come up at Ayodhya.

IIT Kharagpur's RGSOIPL Law School To Promote India-Bound Student Traffic

KOLKATA:  Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur's Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) has started a drive to bring in foreign students and professionals for law education in India. According to Press Trust of India, Professor Khushal Vibhute, Dean of RGSOIPL said that, against old time practice of Indian legal scholars making trips abroad to become law practitioners and professionals, RGSOIPL are now going to promote India-bound student traffic.

RGSOIPL is the first of its kind law school to impart legal education with IP specialization within the IIT System bringing synergy among science, technology, management and law.

The School offers a Six-Semester, Three-Year Full-Time residential programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in Intellectual Property Law approved by the Bar Council of India.

As of now, RGSOIPL is the only law school in the Indian Institute of Technology system, which has established collaborative and exchange programmes with the internationally reputed George Washington University Law School.


"With the government's mandate of bringing in foreign students and promoting internationalisation of IITs, we had organised a spring semester programme with GW Law School, which paved way for exposure of Indian students," Vibhute said as reported by PTI.

The RGSOIPL, which specialises in Intellectual Property Law, has also diversified to other areas of legal education such as Corporate Laws, Taxation, Criminal Laws, International Law, Constitutional Law and Competition Law.

In January 2017, Careers360 has ranked the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Second in the ranking of Law Universities/Schools/Colleges in India. It is also ranked First in research.

How To Book Train Tickets Under New Rail Reservation System - Vikalp

Come April, Railways will scale up 'Vikalp', or a new reservation system called alternate train accommodation scheme (ATAS). Under the Vikalp reservation scheme, waitlisted passengers will be given an opportunity of travelling in Rajdhani, Shatabdi or other premium/special trains at no extra cost if there are vacant berths in those trains. Currently, the Railways is running Vikalp scheme on a pilot basis on select routes. The Vikalp scheme is aimed at utilising vacant berths in other trains. Initially the Vikalp scheme will be available on e-tickets or through e-booking only.

At the time of booking, waitlisted passengers will be given an option to opt for the Vikalp scheme. Either all passengers of a PNR or none will be transferred to alternate train in same class. But remember that opting for Vikalp does not mean that confirmed berth will be provided to passengers in alternate train. It is subject to train and berth availability.

You can be transferred to any alternate train available within 12 hours from the scheduled departure of original train, in which you have booked. Railways said that under the Vikalp scheme boarding and terminating station might change to nearby cluster stations.

Vikalp-opted passengers who booked in waiting and remain fully waitlisted after charting will only be considered for allotment in the alternate train. Once confirmed in alternate train under Vikalp, cancellation charges will be as per your berth/train status in alternate train.


Fully waitlisted passengers who have opted for Vikalp should check PNR status after charting.

Waitlisted passengers of original train shall not be allowed to board the original train if allotted alternate accommodation. Passengers once provided alternate accommodation in alternate train will be treated as normal passengers in alternate train and will be eligible for upgradation. When a Vikalp-opted passenger opts to cancel, after he has been given an alternate accommodation, he will be treated as a confirmed passenger and the cancellation rules will apply accordingly.

US Visa Screenings Gets Tougher, Personal Email, Social Media Accounts to be Scrutinized

Washington: The Trump administration has instructed all its diplomatic missions worldwide to identify certain groups that need extra scrutiny and adopt a rigorous vetting process for issuing visas. Those applying for an American visa - including tourist and business visas - would be asked to furnish details of their employment and residence for the last 15 years and all the phone numbers they used in the previous five years, a diplomatic cable issued by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, said.

The cable was sent after President Donald Trump signed a revised executive order restricting travel from six Muslim-majority Muslim countries on March 6.

The cable dated March 15 says these additional protocols have been put in place to prevent the entry into the US of foreign nationals who may aid, support or commit violent, criminal or terrorist acts and ensure that those allowed to come in are rigorously vetted.  


The classified cable asks all its overseas diplomatic posts to immediately draw a set of criteria for a rigorous vetting process for issuing visas to foreign nationals.

It was not clear if the move will have any impact on Indians.

The cable instructed visa issuing officers to ask additional questions to the applicants. It would also require the applicant to share with visa officer all phone numbers, emails and social media accounts
used in the last five years.

Obama nominates Indian-American Sri Srinivasan to second highest court in US

ASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama on Monday nominated India-born legal luminary Srikanth Srinivasan to the Federal Court of Appeals, the highest ever judicial appointment of an Indian-American in the U.S and a powerful reminder of the extraordinary strides the community has made while deeply integrating into American society.

The nomination, which will have to be confirmed by the US Senate, puts an Indian-American in one of the most powerful positions in the American judicial system since the US Court of Appeals sets legal precedent in regions that cover millions of people. There are 13 Court of Appeals across the U.S. with 179 judges, and the Washington DC Appeals Court to which Srinivasan has been nominated is considered particularly influential, with Obama himself calling it ''the nation's second highest court.'' Because the US Supreme Court hears less than 100 of the more than 10,000 cases filed with it annually, Courts of Appeals serve as the final arbiter on most federal cases. If confirmed by the Senate, the judgeship is a lifetime tenure.

Srinivasan's nomination, along with that of New York Counsel Caitlin Halligan, both announced by the White House on Monday, is not without controversy. Some Obama supporters are said to have opposed his name because of his work in the U.S. Solicitor General's office during the Bush administration, and the Senate blocked Halligan's nomination last year. But President Obama, who himself has a legal background, pushed ahead with the nomination, firmly backing the two appointments.

"Caitlin Halligan and Sri Srinivasan are dedicated public servants who will bring their tremendous experience, intellect, and integrity to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit," Obama said in a statement. "This important court is often called the Nation's second-highest court, and it stands more than a quarter vacant. Mr. Srinivasan will be a trailblazer and, like Ms. Halligan, will serve the court with distinction and excellence."

BJP expels eleven more rebels

NAGPUR: BJP city president Sudhakar Kohale has expelled eleven more BJP activists for contesting Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) election against party candidates. He had expelled 54 rebels on Thursday. This takes the total of expelled leaders to 65.

The rebels expelled on Friday include sitting corporator Meena Tidke, who is contesting on a NCP ticket. The others are Jaishree Dhale and Virendra Paswan (both ward 5), Sanjay Burewar (9), Jagdish Kohale, Manik Telote, Ashish Jagnit and Rakesh Tiwari (all ward 11), Ashok Dorlikar (12), Bharti Masram (13) and Ritika Shivhare (ward 14).

Bhojraj Dumbe, BJP's city organization secretary, told the media that these workers had been expelled from the party for a period of six years. "The top leaders had tried to persuade them to withdraw from the fray, but they did not agree. We have therefore decided to take strict disciplinary action against them," he added.

BJP is facing a rebellion on unprecedented scale this time. Never before has the party expelled workers on such a large scale. The expelled activists include six sitting corporators, four ex-corporators and some hard-core RSS workers. Some rebels are contesting on Sena tickets while others are contesting as independents. While most rebels may not win the election, they are bound to damage BJP prospects to some extent.

TRS govt defends MLAs' suspension

HYDERABAD: The budget session on Saturday got off to a rocky start with two TDP MLAs A Revanth Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, receiving suspensions for the entire budget session for disrupting governor's address on Friday.

The Speaker's decision followed a proposal by legislative affairs minister T Harish Rao to suspend the TDP MLAs as soon as the House assembled for the day. All the opposition members except those from MIM demanded that the government rethink the suspension. Harish Rao said the suspension would be revoked if the members tendered an unconditional apology.

Harish Rao lambasted the opposition parties and said according to Assembly Rules 19(7), members shall not obstruct governor's speech and Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly also decided to maintain the dignity of the House. But TDP members violated the rules and it was proposed to suspend them for the entire session.

He said BJP leaders in the AP Assembly did not interject when YSRCP MLA Roja was suspended for one year. Similarly, Maharashtra Assembly suspended a member for two years for disrupting governor's speech. Kishan Reddy said in Maharashtra, the member was suspended for attacking governor but not for disruption.

Nawaz Sharif ticks off India again on Burhan Wani, Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: In yet another attempt to tick off India, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday once again glorified Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani who was killed by the Indian security forces+ during an encounter last summer. Sharif also reiterated Pakistan's moral, political and diplomatic support to the militant separatist movement in Kashmir.

While emphatically claiming Pakistan's territorial right over Kashmir, Sharif asked the world to put the squeeze on India to "free" the Muslim majority state that has been the bone of contention between India and Pakistan for the last 70 years.

The remarks were made by Sharif during his address to the inaugural session of a two-day International Parliamentary Seminar on Kashmir in Islamabad, organised by Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan in collaboration with the Young Parliamentarians Forum of the National Assembly and government of Azad Jammu Kashmir (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir).

Referring to Burhan Wani as a "vibrant and charismatic leader", the Prime Minister said that his "martyrdom has become a rallying point for the freedom loving people of the territory (Kashmir)."

Wani was killed by the Indian security forces in July 2016 during an encounter. His killing triggered massive violence in Kashmir Valley that left around 90 people dead through the five months of unrest.

"The oppressors' (India) efforts to silence that one voice has unleashed a thousand more," Sharif said.

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday said internal efforts are on in the party to reorganise and strengthen it and former Union Minister S M Krishna could have waited for the results to come out in Karnataka elections later this year as in Punjab.

Congress spokesperson Rajeev Gowda also accused the BJP of poaching its leaders with clean image ahead of Karnataka polls to provide a camouflage for their real antecedents. He, however, said people of the state will not be fooled and the BJP will meet a sorry outcome in the upcoming elections.

"If he had waited for little more time, he would have experienced that there is lot of internal effort that is going on for reorganising the party, revitalising the party.

"Karnataka would have been wonderful example of how we are going to not just reorganise and strengthen the party but also deliver results which will change the momentum just like Punjab had delivered a vote of confidence in Congress party across country," he said
Gowda said Karnataka and other states coming up for polls will deliver the same vote of confidence and "Krishna should have been a little more patient, he would have seen the impact of these changes and we could have used his advice and experience as well".

He said he has been following Krishna's political career and the Congress party had given him everything except three positions of President, Vice President and Prime Minister.

"May be there is a possibility that these are positions on offer. There are some elections coming up. We do not know, only he and the BJP leadership know what induced him to take this particular decision," he said.
"In Karnataka, the BJP is desperately looking for fig leaf; who are their leaders? Their leaders are jailbirds and people who have a tremendously horrible reputation in front of the people of Karnataka - Shri Yeddyuruppa has been to jail, Shri Janardan Reddy has come out of jail and who else?

"The BJP before these elections has no face of its own. So they are reaching out to clean Congress people with the hope that it will provide them some kind of a camouflage for their real antecedents and their true track record. But people of Karnataka will not be fooled and the BJP will meet sorry outcome in the upcoming elections," he said.
Krishna, a former Union External Affairs Minister during UPA, joined the BJP yesterday in the presence of BJP chief Amit Shah and hit out at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi saying politics is serious business and not a "hit-and-run job".

The 84-year-old former external affairs minister also alleged that there is a disconnect between the Congress leadership and the rank and file of the party and that there is no leader in the party who could match Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Arun Jaitley rules out help for farm loan waivers to states; Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis in a spot

Putting state governments that promised loan waivers for farmers in difficulty, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday ruled out such waivers by the Centre insisting states can utilise their own resources in this regard.

He clarified that the Centre will not adopt a selective approach by helping one state and not the others. The move is likely to put even BJP governments, including Devendra Fadnavis administration in Maharashtra and the newly elected one under Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh, in a spot.

"This issue (loan waiver) has cropped up in several states. The Centre has its policies for agriculture sector under which we provide interest subvention and other support. We will continue to give all that.

Representational image. AFP"If a state has its own resources and want to go ahead in that direction, it will have to find its resources. The situation where the Centre will help one state and not the others will not arise," Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha.
However, agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh had said the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh will waive off loans of small and marginal farmers as has been promised in the party's state election manifesto in the recent assembly polls.

The Congress had demanded that the government announce a loan waiver for farmers across the country as was done by the UPA in 2006 and not just for Uttar Pradesh where the BJP has returned to power with a major mandate. The clarification from Jaitley came in this context.

There has been demand for loan waivers from states such as Rajasthan and Punjab too.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and made a strong pitch for a one-time loan waiver for the debt-ridden farmers of the state.

Singh met Modi in his Parliament complex office, first time after becoming the Chief Minister.

"I mentioned the debt waiver issue to the PM. It was an extension of the demand we made earlier when we had gone to meet the PM as part of a Congress delegation led by party vice president Rahul Gandhi.
